The Active Patagonia Factor (APF) measures the honey’s natural antibacterial power, how strongly our honey stops bad bacteria in lab tests.
HIGHER NUMBER, STRONGER ACTION.
SIMPLE.
Active Patagonia Factor (APF) is a scientific certification developed by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
It measures the real antibacterial power of honey. In other words, it measures how effectively it fights E. coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus aureus under lab conditions.
Every certified honey is graded as APF 100+, 150+, or 200+, depending on its verified bioactivity.

This makes APF comparable in concept to UMF in Manuka honey, but instead of measuring chemical compounds, APF measures real biological effectiveness under lab conditions.
APF honeys are sourced from remote, pristine ecosystems in southern Patagonia, regions naturally rich in bioactive flora like Ulmo and Rainforest Wildflowers.
These conditions give each honey its high phenolic and flavonoid profile, the natural compounds behind its strong antibacterial properties. Every harvest is tested, certified, and fully traceable, from hive to jar, ensuring consistency, safety, and authenticity.
At Terra Andes, we believe true wellbeing doesn’t come from synthetic solutions.
It comes from nature working the way it’s meant to — pure, functional, and proven.
Our partnership with Chilean scientists and beekeepers reflects a shared commitment:
To create honey that supports health naturally, certified by science, and crafted with respect for nature.
